Matt Doocey – MP for Waimakariri

Matt Doocey was elected as the Member of Parliament for Waimakariri in the 2014 General Election.

A born and bred Cantabrian, Matt lives in the electorate with his wife Viktoria and their daughter Emily and son James.

After pursuing opportunities in the UK, Matt decided to return home to give something back after the earthquakes and work at the CDHB.

Matt went to St Bedes College before studying counselling psychology at WelTec (Wellington). He has a Bsc (Hons) in Social Policy, an MA in Healthcare Management from Kingston University in London and an MSc in Global Politics from Birkbeck College, University of London.

Matt had a long career in healthcare management including in the delivery of community health, mental health and social care services both in voluntary and Government settings.

In Parliament, Matt serves as Deputy Chair of the Social Services Select Committee and is a member of the Local Government and Environment Select Committee.

Matt sees his job as MP being to ensure your views, problems and concerns are heard in Parliament.  Whether it is through his three offices, night meetings, caravan clinics or living and working in the electorate with his family, it is important for Matt to keep connected.

Dan Rosewarne for Waimakariri

Dan enlisted in the NZ Army at the age of 18 and completed an Auto Heavy Engineering apprenticeship. After several years in this job Dan moved up through the ranks and took on various mentoring, training and logistics management roles.

Dan believes that every New Zealander deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential and have a share in the Kiwi Dream of homeownership, world class health care and a well-paid job. Dan is passionate about the trades and believes that apprenticeships are vital to business and the economy. Dan is committed to improving pathways for young people to get into apprenticeships and for businesses to take on apprentices.

With the NZDF, Dan has served on several operational tours, including two to Afghanistan. It is these experiences that have helped shape Dan’s views on the importance of equality, social justice and providing opportunities for everyone to get ahead.

Some of Dan’s career highlights include deploying as part of the regional assistance mission to the Solomon Islands in 2008 and providing disaster relief to Christchurch after the 2011 earthquakes. Most recently Dan was involved with the coordination and distribution of essential supplies into Kaikoura immediately after the earthquake.
